Q. How do I locate a KSCHIP event in my area? A. Go to the "Calendar" section of the KSCHIP Web site. A list of events will appear for the current month. If you do not see an event in your area.
Q. How much does it cost to have my child identified? A. Nothing. KSCHIP is a FREE service provided by the Freemasons of Kansas.
Q. How long does it take to have my child identified? A. Generally the process takes 10 minutes.
Q. Are "microchips" implanted into my child? A. Absolutely NOT! KSCHIP is short for Kansas Child Identification and Protection Program. KSCHIP does not use microchips or any other invasive procedures.
Q. How is DNA collected? A. A cotton swab is used to retrieve a saliva sample from the inside of the child's cheek.
Q. What information should I bring? A. It is recommended to have on hand the child(ren)'s:
Q. How safe is my personal information? A. Once the Permission Form and the Information Collection Sheet are collected from the parent or guardian by the KSCHIP Reception Station, the data is entered into a computer and the original form is handed back to the parent. Digital photos and fingerprints are added to the data file and written to a computer disk. All components are provided in a yellow envelope and sealed. Once the kit is completed, the computer system is flushed erasing all information pertaining to the child.
Q. Can I leave my child at the KSCHIP event and come back to pick him/her up later? A. No. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and remain with the child(ren) throughout the KSCHIP process.
Q. Can I get the KSCHIP kit and do it at home? A. KSCHIP is not a do-it-yourself Child ID kit. KSCHIP is the most comprehensive Child Recovery, Identification and Abduction Awareness Education program, utilizing the most sophisticated equipment and software available, and provided on a solitary disk that is Amber Alert compatible. Our program is a system put into place by Kansas Freemasonry and must be attended.
Q. What should I do if information was entered incorrectly at a KSCHIP event? A. For security purposes, all information is wiped clean from the computers. Therefore, there is no way of going back to your child's file to correct or alter information. However, you can attend another KSCHIP event, bring your packet and have a corrected disk made.
Q. Can I have duplicate KSCHIP packets made for my former spouse? A. Providing there is not a lengthy wait time, most technical coordinators will accommodate your request. Please see the coordinator in charge of that event.
Q. Should I place my child's yellow KSCHIP packet in my safety deposit box? A. No. You want this information available to you immediately if your child goes missing. We also suggest you take your child(ren)'s KSCHIP packet with you when you travel.
Q. Can I hold a KSCHIP event at my church or school? A. To co-host a KSCHIP event, you must complete the request form on our Web site. Please note that due to the popularity of our program, it is suggested to plan at least six months in advance and have multiple dates available to work with.
